Reporting to the Commissioner, Community Services, the Director of Planning Services/Chief Planner provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for all land-use planning related policies and initiatives for the City’s Planning Department. With a team of 31 staff, the Director collaborates across the corporation, advising on economic development, brownfield redevelopment, heritage, transportation, accessibility, and environmental aspects of city development. The Director is Council’s guide on all planning matters, providing creative and best practice solutions for how the City is formed and connected. Visible and engaged in the community, the Director proactively seeks input from citizens, developers, and the broader building community.

With your degree, RPP designation, and at least 10 years of relevant experience, you are a progressive land-use planner. You possess a solid understanding of the public sector and have worked in government or a consulting firm advising governments on city building. You are a champion of people and showcase a positive attitude in all that you do. Your track record demonstrates your ability to facilitate complex and high-profile public discussions and an appreciation of building and development pressures from all perspectives. Your ability to balance being firm yet flexible are key to your success. A commitment to high customer service standards has enabled communities to develop in a timely way.
