21-024e - Trades I - Utilities
To perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to the operation, maintenance (O&M) and construction of the water distribution, wastewater and storm collection systems Under the general direction of a Superior a Utilities Trade 1 shall be involved in the day to day operation, maintenance and repair of these systems, working closely with crews and independently performing a variety of O&M tasks and programs, such as but not limited to: installing/repairing watermains, sanitary and storm mains, services, and manholes, installation/repair of water meters as well as the repair and maintenance of the City’s pumping and PRV stations.

The Training Requirements Manual pre-qualifications for this position are:

  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Motor Vehicle Operators License
  • Environmental Operator Certification in Water Distribution I or Wastewater Collection I accredited through the Environmental Operator Certification Program (EOCP) with an expectation that if an employee only has one qualification they will obtain the other within twelve (12) months or else revert back to their previous position.
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the water/wastewater environment is required. It is the responsibility of interested employees to ensure that their application is received in the Human Resources Department before the deadline.
     

This position will be awarded in accordance with Article 10.5 of the Collective Agreement. Candidates who apply for and accept a time-stated temporary position can apply for another time-stated temporary position and will be considered on a without prejudice basis, with union agreement, and based on operational considerations. This consideration may be withdrawn by the union or the employer in the future and existing Article 10.6 language will again apply.

A Trades I - Utilities is involved in the day to day operation, maintenance and repair of these systems, works closely with crews and independently performs a variety of O&M tasks and programs, such as but not limited to: installing/repairing water mains, sanitary and storm mains, services, and manholes, installation/repair of water meters as well as the repair and maintenance of the City’s pumping and PRV stations.
