Located in the Land of the Midnight Sun, the Town of Inuvik is the Gateway to the Beaufort Delta on the scenic Mackenzie River. The Town, about 200km’s above the Arctic Circle, is rich in diversity and offers access by way of air transportation and the Dempster Highway.
Inuvik is an Arctic tourism destination that welcomes up to 7,000 visitors per year. The Town of 3,300 is also a service center for surrounding communities and Industry, including some major First Nations enterprises and the oil and gas industry. Inuvik is a great place to raise a family, offering an abundance of lifestyle services including Government and Health Care Services, Education (including Aurora College) and transportation services. Recreation facilities serve everything from curling and hockey to squash and softball. Fishing, Hunting, Skiing, Camping and all kinds of other outdoor activities abound.
Due to unforeseen events the Town is currently looking for a Director of Finance to join its Senior Management team. The municipality is looking for a candidate that can demonstrate that with guidance, they can compete for the highest level of Administration in Inuvik. This is your opportunity to join a solid team of professionals, report directly to the SAO and provide leadership and guidance to 5 direct reports including the Human Resources Officer. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Council, the SAO and other department heads in achieving goals and strategies, as set out in Municipal strategic planning processes.

Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer, this executive management position provides leadership to, and is responsible for, the overall management of the Finance Department. This includes all corporate, financial and capital accounting, human resources and payroll functions, planning, budgeting, corporate Investments and more. Experience with policy development and strategic planning will be an asset.
The Director of Finance is responsible for all operations of the department, even those that may be subject to some future change. The individual selected may have the shared opportunity to act for the Chief Administrative Officer in his/her absence. The successful candidate will represent the Finance Department at Town Council, Director and Manager Meetings as required.
In addition to the following, the ideal candidate will have a recognized degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related, supplemented by an Accounting Designation in any of the following: CPA, CA, CMA or CGA; plus 5 years’ experience in a local government environment. National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration I and II would be an asset.
Excellent Leadership and interpersonal skills, including decision and team building, combined with verbal, written and listening skills and presentation abilities would be required. Familiarity with Municipal acts and legislation will be a great asset.
