Reporting to the City Manager, the Deputy City Manager, Planning & Growth Management will provide leadership and oversight to the Planning & Growth Management Portfolio to deliver service excellence to the citizens of Vaughan and to achieve its strategic priorities. The specific areas of focus are policy planning, development planning, environmental sustainability, building standards, development engineering, and the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.
As a member of the Executive Senior Leadership Team, you will work closely with all community partners and stakeholders to create high quality mixed use and special spaces within the City while protecting the character and identity of historic communities. The Planning & Growth Management portfolio touches all areas of the organization and works closely with citizens, developers, residents, regulatory authorities, consultants and all levels of government to achieve Council’s goal of building a vibrant and sustainable City. With your team of 211 staff you will drive continuous improvement and ensure your team is prepared for the City’s expansion well into the next decade. As a senior municipal leader, you will ensure the City Manager and Council are well informed of all progress and opportunities in the community and will harness all resources to plan and build Vaughan’s future.
With a minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience, you are an experienced city builder with a University Degree in Planning, Engineering or Business Administration (MBA is desirable). You have led complex, high profile land-use planning initiatives and projects in consultation with municipal Councils and community stakeholders, and worked in collaboration with the development industry, consultants and on behalf of municipalities. You are a talented public speaker and relationship builder, experienced in working with elected officials, and confident in your ability to articulate a vision and turn planning and growth management plans into reality. You have been recognized as a passionate, energetic leader that demonstrates strong political acumen, a collaborative approach, and a skill for recognizing talent and building a motivated, committed team.
