Reporting to the City Manager, the Deputy City Manager, Community Services provides vision, leadership and strategic direction to the Community Services Portfolio. This senior leadership position is responsible for providing administrative governance and oversight to ensure that programs and services are aligned to deliver service excellence to the citizens of Vaughan and achieve Council’s approved priorities.
The specific areas of oversight within the portfolio are By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permitting Services, Fire and Rescue Service, Recreation Services, and the Access Vaughan city-wide call centre. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will support the effective and efficient delivery of citizen facing services and align the portfolio with the City’s strategic initiatives.
With your team of 518 staff and a 2021 operating budget of $64.9M, you will lead your team in the development of policies, programs, and continuous improvement that drive results that are aligned with the Corporation’s term of council priorities, strategic vision, direction & Service Excellence priorities, while ensuring inclusive, transparent and accountable decision making. As a senior leader, you will communicate regularly with Council to keep them informed of all progress and opportunities in the community.
With a minimum of ten (10) years of senior leadership experience, the ideal candidate has experience in government or consulting for governments with a University Degree in Recreation, Business Administration, Public Administration, or other equivalent education and experience. You are a skilled public speaker, experienced in working with elected officials, and are known for your relationship building skills. You demonstrate a collaborative approach and are passionate about building a strong team of committed employees.
