We are currently recruiting for two Utility Equipment Operator vacancies due to some recent retirements. These positions are located in the Roads section of the Public Works Division in the Engineering and Public Works department.
- Position 1: Saturdays to Wednesdays (5 days/week) – 40 hour/week
- Position 2: Mondays to Fridays (5 days/week) – 40 hour/week
The successful incumbent will be skilled in the operation of equipment and trucks including Street Sweeper, Backhoe (loader and digger), Grader, Flail Mower, Front End Loader and various other vehicles/equipment. You would also have thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations governing City equipment and trucks as well as sound knowledge of City streets and traffic routes; have the ability to perform routine servicing, inspections and maintenance on equipment and trucks and be required to maintain routine records related to all work performed.
You will be required to exercise considerable independent judgement in may direct the work of a small group of staff in duties related to equipment operation.
Training and experience requirements include the completion of Grade 10, supplemented by courses in flagging, safety and first aid, plus considerable experience in all levels of equipment operation and truck driving in Municipal construction and maintenance work, or equivalent combination of training and experience. A Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is a requirement. (Please include a recent Driver’s Abstract with your application). You will also be required to have or obtain a level 3 Backhoe certificate prior to completion of your trial period.
