We are looking for an experienced Capital Projects Manager interested in joining the City of Coquitlam to tackle exciting projects while maintaining a healthy work life balance! This position serves a key role in the delivery of capital facility and parks projects in partnership with other City departments and external stakeholders of the Parks Recreation Culture and Facilities Department. This position is one of 4 direct reports to the Director Strategic and Capital Projects and will manage 4 unionized direct reports.

This position will be responsible for developing, assessing and implementing capital construction projects of strategic corporate priority and impact in order to advance the interests of our community, residents and stakeholders. The incumbent will have a proven ability to lead teams and instill direction across the organization to ensure integration, communication and effective execution of the City’s strategic priorities through the delivery of assigned projects.

A Capital Project Manager of this caliber is an excellent deadline driven multitasker, has strong organizational capabilities along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This position will encompass responsibilities including but not limited to; managing complex capital construction projects from concept through construction, ensuring delivery of excellent projects on time and on budget. The successful incumbent will exhibit a thorough technical and commercial knowledge in construction, development, facilities and municipal/public works infrastructure; a proven ability to provide recommendations and direction with a strategic lens in a complex, multi-functional and political environment; and overall ability to exercise sound and effective judgment and leadership through being an innovative and strategic thinker that others will want to emulate and follow. This position will require a high degree of municipal business and political acumen, a proven track record for building relationships with and across functional teams as well as with key internal/external stakeholders, and the ability to effectively resolve issues and identify opportunities with managed exposure/risk to the City.

The successful incumbent will possess a university degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, Construction Management or a related discipline to the work, plus a minimum of 7 years of related experience including a combination of engineering and project management experience in land development, design, construction, consultant administration, and contract administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a municipal setting, or consulting experience is considered an asset. A Project Management Professional (PMP) credential is beneficial and registration in an accredited organization such as APEGBC and ASTTBC is preferred.
