Coquitlam School District invites applications for the position of Manager of Business Affairs – International Education. As the third largest school district in the province we are located within a 40 minute drive from downtown Vancouver.  The school district has a population of 32,000 students with approximately 4300 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff.

Reporting to the Principal - International Education, the Manager of Business Affairs plays an important role as part of the leadership team for the large and vibrant K to 12 international education program enrolling about 1100 international students, and is responsible for ensuring the effective functioning of business and financial services, managing contractual and financial obligations and assisting in the effective management of support staff.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages internal controls for all of the department’s receivables, expenditures, commitments and other financial business matters, including reconciliation of financial information
  • Provides quotations, pricing and cost analysis for groups and short-term programs, ensuring profitability and safeguarding the financial interests of International Education
  • Reviews profitability, products and services on an annual basis
  • Determines and manages administration of allotments of International Student Grants to individual schools
  • Represents the department as liaison with international agents
  • Meets with agents to provide information regarding the international program
  • Reviews agent applications, business licenses; evaluates agent performance
  • Reviews and recommends commission scale to ensure competitiveness with other school districts
  • Communicates with agents of all targeted global markets as individuals and in groups
  • Performs sales presentations to agents at fairs
  • Recommends, implements, and manages system improvements
  • Manages, directs and supervises the submission of applications, changes and cancellation of medical coverage for students; including MSP and private insurance companies
  • Manages the provision of letters of offer, acceptance and attendance
  • Manages the acceptance of custodianship documents for international students
  • Manages study permit validation and renewals
  • Manages contracts with homestay agents
  • Liaises with homestay  provider companies
  • Prepares annual contracts with homestay agents for long term and short-term students
  • Reviews performance of homestay coordinators twice yearly as part of contract renewal
  • Directly supervises department support staff
  • Duties as assigned by the Principal of International Education


The successful candidate will have experience in a competitive business setting and the ability to travel for the purpose of attending agent fairs in other countries.

Required Education and Experience

  • Relevant degree or completion of a two-year diploma program in business management, financial management or marketing from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • 5 years related work experience, preferably in the education sector
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement solutions to issues and operational problems
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and encourage teamwork and cooperation
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level in administration and accounting systems
  • International Education experience an asset
  • A valid class 5 BC Driver’s license and  business use of personal vehicle
