Chief Financial Officer

The Town of Golden needs a Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial planning and affairs of our municipality which lies just a 2.5 hour drive west of Calgary central to six of the most highly acclaimed Canadian mountain parks, at the junction of the spectacular Kicking Horse and Columbia Rivers, and between the peaks of the Purcell and Rocky Mountain ranges.

Reporting to our CAO you will work with our council, management team and the community while directing the financial affairs of the municipality including investment management, capital and operational expenditure planning and budgeting, taxation policy, grant management, and the systems that functionalize the corporation’s daily, quarterly, and annual transactions.  You will be a key component to the oversight of a nearly $10 million annual budget to deliver efficient and effective public services to our community.

You need to be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and take on the many challenges and flexibilities required in a small but very dynamic community with industrial and tourism roots. You’ll find help in your departmental team under your supervision which includes a professionally designated deputy overseeing four clerks whose responsibilities include general services, accounts, payroll, taxes, and utilities while you also directly oversee two individuals for our information technology and GIS system needs.

We need you to be at least an undergraduate in the financial field with a professional accounting designation and at least 5 years of experience in a local government setting, 3 in a managerial capacity.  You must have experience using local government oriented accounting software, preferably AMAIS, and a good knowledge of the responsibilities of local government under applicable British Columbia legislation.  Duties, accountabilities and qualifications are described in detail in an available job description at
