Reporting to the General Manager, Development Services, the Director of Planning is the City’s Chief Planner providing administrative direction to a team of 30 staff in the areas of Long Range and Policy Planning, Site Development and Customer Service, and Development Review. The Director acts as a primary advisor to Council on planning and development matters and represents the City in various functions with government agencies and neighbouring municipalities. Guiding the way the City looks, functions, and grows, the Planning Division develops strategies, policies, regulations, and programs related to land use planning, cultural heritage conservation, environmental planning, urban design, growth management, and special studies. The Director prioritizes community engagement and consultation to collaboratively vision and grow Kitchener as a complete and healthy city.

With your degree and RPP designation, you possess more than 7 years of progressively responsible experience planning urban and growing communities. You have a track record of forging collaborative relationships and empowering your team to think creatively and improve processes. You understand the business side of development and respond flexibly and with a customer service focus. A passionate city builder and engaging communicator, you are experienced in leading public consultations and bringing together the community to build a better city for everyone: working together, growing thoughtfully, and building community.
