This is skilled trades work of a working supervisory nature involving the direction of a small group of skilled and semi-skilled subordinates engaged in applying specific trade skills to horticulture duties. The Trades Foreman 1 is responsible for allocating, checking and reviewing the work performed by subordinates and may act for a supervisor, within defined limits, in the latter's absence. Plans, allocates, checks, reviews and participates in the work. Requisitions supplies, parts and tools; reviews work records; prepares and maintains timesheets, records and reports. Assists a supervisor in planning, scheduling and estimating material and manpower requirements for projects; and assists in developing and implementing work methods. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of grade 12 supplemented by completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification program, plus some experience at the journeyman level OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (e.g. work orders, scheduling, asset management, scheduled maintenance), SAP and/or Garden-CAD and computer office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point). Ability to plan, allocate, check and review the work of a group of subordinates engaged in skilled and semi-skilled trades work; to requisition supplies and to maintain and view records using the City’s electronic systems, as required; to assist a supervisor in planning and scheduling projects and in developing and implementing work methods and to act, within defined limits, for a superior in their absence, and to perform all working supervisory and related tasks with minimal supervision. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia and Certificate of Qualification are required.
