Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66
The Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66, located in Southwestern Alberta, is noted for its commitments to heritage ranching and to environmental stewardship. Council is preparing for changing economic opportunities in SW Alberta that are now underway and seeks a Chief Administrative Officer who is strongly team oriented, skilled at “reading between the lines” of governance and administration and has extensive project management experience.
Uniquely, the Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66 has no population centers, so staff members commute from communities in adjacent municipalities. Headquarters are at picturesque Chain Lakes Provincial Park on the famous Cowboy Trail (Alberta Provincial Highway No. 22). Calgary and Lethbridge, first and fourth in size in the province respectively are within about 90 minutes driving distance from MD headquarters.
Council has identified five key attributes of its future CAO:
- Formal study of local governments
- CAO role mastery from 5 or more years of experience
- Understands the difference between managing and leading
- Fast learner in general, especially in the current unsettled conditions
- Dedication to continuous learning
