This is complex technical work involving the provision of computer support and problem resolution services to a large detachment of the RCMP. An incumbent investigates, documents, assesses, and resolves network related software and hardware problems; acts as a project leader on a wide range of information development and system installation and upgrade projects; installs and configures network software and hardware; provides on-going maintenance for databases and develops or customizes software applications related to same; provides advice and assistance to users in the use of software and recommends or implements procedures to address problems; develops applications including database design and system interfaces, reports, forms and user aids; develops and conducts training sessions for small groups or on a one-on-one basis to detachment users of applicable software; prepares and maintains a variety of material such as policy and procedures manuals, records, files and statistical reports. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of a two year diploma program in computer sciences or related discipline at a technical institute or community college including courses related to network systems technology, plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the identification and resolution of hardware and software problems on networked computers; of the principles, capabilities, methods and practices used in the installation, configuration and operation of computer hardware, software and operating systems as related to the work performed; of the principles and practices of project management as related to the work performed. Ability to investigate, document, assess and resolve software and hardware problems and to liaise with technical specialists on the more complex problems; to provide assistance, advice and training to users in the effective use of software applications and to recommend or implement solutions and alternatives; to develop and customize software applications including databases. Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.

This is a temporary full time opportunity to December 31, 2020.
