The City of Vaughan, well on its way to becoming a world class city, is seeking a leader who will approach this strategic role as a facilitator, champion of change, collaborator and partnership builder. As City Manager, you will have ultimate responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the City’s departments and overall administration.

One of Southern Ontario’s fastest growing centres, with a mix of urban and rural areas, Vaughan is a sought-after place to live and work. With a population of approximately 335,000 residents, the City of Vaughan has been one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada and continues to be an emerging world-class place to raise a family, start a business and enjoy many attractions and amenities. It is anticipated that by 2031, Vaughan will grow to more than 416,000 people and 266,000 jobs. Vaughan’s vision is to be “A city of choice that promotes diversity, innovation and opportunity for all citizens, fostering a vibrant community life that is inclusive, progressive, environmentally responsible and sustainable”. Vaughan’s Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan 2018-2022 was approved by Council and it is guided by the City’s mission, vision and values and divided into nine strategic priority areas.

As City Manager, you have demonstrated the knowledge and ability to evolve an organization’s culture and operational practices. You have the innate ability to engage, inspire and build co-operative relationships with all stakeholders. With a 2020 operating budget of $515 million and a workforce of over 2000 staff, you will support the effective and efficient delivery of strategy and services. Working with the Mayor, Council and your senior team, you will facilitate the implementation of the Service Excellence Strategic Plan. Your commitment to transparency and dialogue will contribute to improving service delivery, identifying and communicating key risks to Council and developing mitigation strategies. You will build strong working relationships with all partners to ensure that Vaughan’s Service Excellence Strategic Plan is progressing. You will also have strong strategic financial planning and budgeting skills to further enhance an organization that is committed to fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth.

With a minimum of 15 years of senior leadership experience, the ideal candidate has worked in a municipality or other similarly complex and diverse organization; experience leading a culture of trust within a unionized environment is essential.
