Position Overview
While primarily completing the work duties of an arena maintenance worker, this job will also have supervisory responsibility for the other Facilities Division staff that are on overlapping shifts. The hours are evenings, Friday through Monday (4, ten hour shifts). The main duties include routine ice maintenance of arenas and a curling rink, as well as minor maintenance work on other City buildings, including outdoor swimming pools. The Facilities Shift Supervisor will also assist and support the Facilities Support Services Supervisor and the Building Services Worker Supervisor with performance management and ensuring safety standards, duties, and timelines are met while on shift.

  • Supervision of Facilities staff during shift
  • Overall complex building supervision, including liaison with Recreation leadership staff
  • Responsible for building closure
  • Daily maintenance of several City buildings
  • Respond to maintenance requests from the public
  • Install and maintain curling rink and arena ice
  • Monitor refrigeration plant
  • Operate and maintain ice equipment (Zamboni, edger, pro-oxy, ice tools)
  • Prepare swimming pools for the season
  • Monitor pool chemistry on a daily basis during the season
  • Minor plumbing, electrical, mechanical work and woodworking

Basic Qualifications
  • Grade 12 and a minimum of 3 years of job related experience, including some supervisory / leadership experience
  • Completion of R.O (Refrigeration Operator)
  • Building Service Worker Certification
  • Pool Operator II
  • Ice Technician Certification
  • Curl Canada Level 1 or Level 2 Certification would be an asset
  • Fall protection and confined space training
  • Level 1 First Aid
  • Experience ensuring that janitorial and safety procedures are followed
  • Experience with installation, maintenance, and removal of curling rink and arena ice
  • Experience operating and maintaining the Zamboni and related ice equipment
  • Experience with maintenance of pool facilities, including pool start-up and shut down
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule work
  • Experience trouble shooting equipment and systems
  • Knowledge in facility policies and procedures
  • Excellent customer service and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
