Due to an impending retirement, the City of Coquitlam is currently seeking a Landscape Manager for our Parks, Recreation and Culture Services Department. Reporting to the Manager Parks, the Landscape Manager is accountable for ensuring that the floral displays, shrub beds and activity lawns within municipal parks, improved boulevards and public building landscapes in the City are maintained, preserved, enhanced and protected in order to meet the enhanced horticultural expectations of the community. This leadership role coordinates the work of Landscape crews and ensures that staff are fully conversant with the safe operational requirements of the parks system. This person is responsible for ensuring effective communication channels are established as well as actively participates in leading, coaching, mentoring and motivating staff and developing high performance work teams. Participating in the development and monitoring of an annual Maintenance Management Plan and civic beautification initiatives will be expected, as well as developing and monitoring annual budgets.
The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of three to five years of progressive supervisory and leadership experience in a related field, preferably in a display garden or parks maintenance union environment. A degree in Plant Sciences, Horticulture or a related field, or a diploma or Journeyman trades qualification in a relevant area of study is ideal. Additionally, the successful candidate will have completed post-secondary courses in management and supervision; 3 – 5 years’ experience in a supervisory position, preferably in municipal parks; experience working with budgets; excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
