Position Overview
The Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to be part of our team.
Responsibilities
The Recreation Leader 1 will assist the Recreation Programmer and Recreation Leader 2 in Children's Services with the implementation of afterschool programs and camps, while providing leadership to staff. Responsibilities include participating in the planning and implementation of programs, assisting with purchasing supplies, scheduling substitute instructors (or leading the class as necessary), and dealing with parent concerns. This position will provide instruction and coaching to children, parents and program instructors while ensuring the safety of participants.
Requirements
This position will work approximately 20 hours per week (afternoon / early evening weekday hours), with the exception of summer months, when this position will work approximately 28 hours / week (daytime hours). Basic Qualifications
- Grade 12 education and 6 months of related post-secondary courses in recreation plus a minimum of one year of related experience
- Strong team-building, leadership and communication skills
- Experience coaching or instructing children
- Good organizational skills
- Supervisory experience would be an asset
- Proficiency with computers (preferably experience with MS Office)
- Experience with Perfect Mind registration and facility booking software would be an asset
- A valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle
