We are looking for a proactive, dynamic, results-oriented professional with strong communication, collaboration, and organization skills to join the Engineering, Parks and Environment team in a regular full-time position.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering Planning & Design, you will be responsible for the design of the City’s street network to optimize functionality for moving people and to facilitate safe mobility and a modal shift to active and transit trips. You will be responsible for various transportation projects and you will review and analyze other agencies transportation designs and projects, as well as impacts of private development, which may affect the City. Responsibilities will include technical analysis and design support for creation of the City’s overall mobility strategy, specific strategies to expand the network of mobility/bike lanes, prepare for a growing variety of uses such as ride-hailing and micromobility, and to advance the planning and design of complete street concepts for major corridors. You will play a key role throughout the full cycle of these projects including, project conception, consultation and design, construction preparation and tender documents, and manage the work undertaken by internal staff, consultants and contractors. You will also conduct transportation studies and prepare reports and recommendations for senior management and Council; initiate and organize public involvement on selected transportation projects and make presentations to the public; and, prepare and recommend new and revised transportation regulations, bylaws, policies and procedures.
You are either a Professional Engineer registered with EGBC, or will be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer within 6 months. You will also have several years’ experience with traffic and transportation engineering projects, parking management, and management of capital projects ranging in scale from small to large, preferably within a municipal environment. You possess strong analysis and design skills, a solid understanding of transportation design guidelines and regulatory requirements, and construction and supervisory experience. Possession of a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) designation is an asset.
