The Planning Officer reports to the University Endowment Lands (UEL) Deputy Manager as part of the Development Services team. The position is responsible for administering land use plans (e.g. official community plan, neighbourhood plans) and bylaws, managing rezoning and development permit applications, and leading associated technical sub-committees.

Qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, related resource management field or equivalent, (e.g. bachelor’s degree combined with a diploma or master’s in planning).
- Qualified as a member, in good standing, or with ability to become a member within six months, of a recognised BC planning, architectural or building association, such as Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC), Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) or Building Officials’ Association of BC (BOABC)
- Experience in liaising with building and development professionals (e.g. architects, engineers, developers, and building trades), property owners, and the public, on technical and/or controversial land use issues.
- Experience in consensus building with a variety of stakeholders, such as community advisory groups.
