Manager, Communications & Government Relations


The City of White Rock is a unique, ocean-side community of 20,000 citizens known for its sunny weather, expansive beach, historic pier, delightful restaurants, and sense of community. The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay.

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Administration, the Manager, Communications & Government Relations is responsible for providing leadership, supervision and direction in the development and implementation of the City’s communications and public relations strategies, programs and initiatives. Your work involves proactively identifying emerging issues and public relations opportunities to enhance community awareness; developing and implementing complex and specialized corporate communications initiatives; providing recommendations, advice and support to organizational leaders in communication of internal and corporate messages to ensure transparency and understanding of City projects, programs and services; liaising with a variety of internal and external contacts including City departments, media, municipal partners, the public and other levels of government; researching and writing a variety of communications materials such as news releases, newsletters, annual reports, grant applications and speeches; and maintaining and regulating the City’s internet and intranet communications and social media outreach tools.

The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of the principles, objectives, methods and techniques of communications and public relations work relevant to municipal operations. You are a self-starter, highly organized and possess outstanding verbal and communication skills with the ability to exercise diplomacy, tact and professionalism. You bring an open, team-oriented leadership style and welcome the challenge of seeking continuous improvements in organizational efficiency. It is essential that you are able to develop and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.

You will have successfully completed a degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field plus bring considerable related experience including proven results in issues management, media relations and social media engagement. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record is also required.
