As an economic generator of over $1.53 billion annually, Whistler is key to British Columbia’s tourism economy.

The Legislative Services department of the Corporate and Community Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Legislative and Insurance Coordinator. Reporting to the Municipal Clerk, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as possible through to approximately April 1, 2020.

This position is responsible for the processing and maintenance of insurance claims served on the municipality and is the main municipal contact with the Municipal Insurance Association of British Columbia. Responsibilities also include risk management, supporting corporate planning and reading and interpreting the Community Charter, Local Government Act, RMOW bylaws and other legislation. This position assists with local government elections and offers general ongoing support and assistance to the Municipal Clerk.

Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as law, public administration or political science supplemented by three to five years of experience in a similar role. Qualified candidates must demonstrate knowledge and experience with local government legislation, court proceedings and legal procedures, insurance processes and risk management. Also, candidates must have the proven ability to interpret and apply bylaws, other legislation and legal opinions. Qualified candidates will also demonstrate a high level of analytical thinking and excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of degree of tact, diplomacy and the ability to work within a confidential environment and maintain confidentiality. Legal training and/or risk management training would be considered a strong asset.

The successful candidate is a very organized and detail oriented individual with the demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task and work within deadlines. The successful candidate is also approachable and helpful with the ability to foster effective working relationships and contribute to a teamwork environment. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
