Environmental Students

Are you a part-time or full-time student who is interested in protecting the environment? Are you looking to gain experience in your chosen field of study? This may be your opportunity!

The District of Mission is looking for 2 energetic and motivated students for a 4 to 5 month assignment. You will perform a variety of tasks related to customer service and outreach regarding water conservation and recycling regulations and related bylaws. Some of the specific duties include promoting and providing information on water conservation and recycling initiatives; conducting sprinkler patrols and curbside recycling inspections; preparing and maintaining reports, records and correspondence; attending and representing the District at public events to promote and provide education on the water system, water conservation and recycling; conducting research and analyzing consumption data and findings; and providing general support to Engineering & Public Works.

Ideally you will have 2nd or 3rd year academic knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental studies and you are intending to return to school in the next academic year. You will use your abilities and skill to compile and record data, and to research and analyze various factors relative to assigned projects to prepare non-complex research reports. You will have excellent customer relations skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and be able to prepare and deliver presentations to public groups. This position also requires proficiency in computer skills and a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence.

The opportunity will commence the beginning of May until the end of September 2019. The hourly rate for this CUPE Student Employee position is $20.43 per hour plus 12.4% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays, other paid leaves, fringe benefits and premiums.

The hours of work will be up to 7 hours per day, 5 days per week, with some early morning, evening, and weekend shifts.
