Skill Building with Stories Facilitator 


The West Vancouver Memorial Library Youth Department has an opening for a program facilitator with education and experience in Special Education. This program will run throughout the school year.

Reporting to the Youth Department Head, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and facilitating the “Skill-Building with Stories” program. This program is designed for high school students with exceptionalities (and their Learning Assistants) attending school in West Vancouver. Attendees participate in a variety of activities to foster skills around literacy, socialization, communication and working together in groups. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning engaging, developmentally appropriate program content for verbal and responsive Special Education students in Grades 8-12
  • Engaging and including the students’ adult Learning Assistants in the program design
  • Facilitating the weekly program

The successful candidate will possess: experience working with youth in a special education classroom or other student-centred environment; a demonstrated ability to plan and carry out lesson/program plans; a passion for working with kids and teens with different ability levels and challenges; superior communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently with little supervision. Familiarity with public library services and resources for youth would be considered an asset.

The program runs weekly in three sessions: April - early June 2019, September – December 2019 and January – June 2020 on Monday mornings (and may extend into the 2020/2021 school year). The position can start in April or September, 2019. Facilitator prep time is included. The hours for this position are funded by the West Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation.

Each successful candidate is required to supply a criminal record check and a copy of their credentials.

Hours of Work:
4 hours per week

Rate of Pay:
$31.63 to $37.24 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits
