As Director, Strategic Communications, you will build, coach and lead a dedicated team of talented communications professionals, ensuring the design and delivery of integrated high quality, professional external and internal communications to support strategic goals and objectives. You are an exceptional leader, capable of engaging and inspiring your team to a high performance level and enabling a customer focused culture where trust is paramount and courage is nurtured. You will oversee the development and implementation of an innovative communications vision and strategy that will enable the success of departments across the organization and deliver service excellence. As a trusted and experienced advisor and relationship builder, you will provide expert communications advice, approaches and strategies to support the senior leadership team and Council while working collaboratively with community and business leaders and the public.
You will lead development of cutting-edge social and digital media strategies and city-wide strategic communications programs that connect the City of Brampton’s many rapidly changing, young, diverse ethnic communities, languages and cultures. You will evaluate, enhance and champion the City’s brand, and act as media relations expert and strategist, social media and digital marketing guru, ambassador and spokesperson.
Key Competencies, Qualifications and Experience
You have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Media, Communications or Business and a minimum of 10 years progressively responsible communications experience, preferably in municipal government, education and/or healthcare. You have at least 7 years’ experience in leadership and can demonstrate extensive knowledge of all communication platforms, especially social, digital and ethnic media where you have aligned corporate goals with a marketing plan and achieved results with an accent on diversity. You have at least 5 years’ experience in managing complex communications resources, including internal and external relationships, vendors and agencies and the ability to prioritize and monitor multiple competing deadlines, objectives and priorities.
You have exceptional political acuity, impeccable written and oral communication skills and the ability to articulate sensitive, complex, technical information to a broad and diverse audience. You have proven yourself to be a trusted and strategic advisor to senior executives and can display a track record of implementing strategic communication strategies with high impact and success. You have experience working as a member of a board or committee, highly developed relationship management and public relations skills and you are adept at interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, elected officials, community groups, government agencies, public and private sector organizations.
You have strong awareness and comprehension of municipal, provincial and federal government issues, trends, politics and legislation and of the social, economic and political priorities currently impacting the City of Brampton. You have a willingness to embrace change, adapt strategies on the fly and you have a high tolerance for ambiguity. You are detail oriented, well organized and can prioritize highly complex tasks with critical deadlines. You have highly-developed analytical skills, and aptitude for complex problem solving and proven fiscal and financial acumen. You have a desire to lead success and inspire change in communications at the City of Brampton.
