Access Inclusion Support Worker


Do you enjoy working with children and youth between the ages of 3-18 years? Are you a team player? Can you demonstrate a high level of energy and enthusiasm?

Access Inclusion Support Workers are part of an Inclusion Support Team that promotes inclusion for children who have been diagnosed with disabilities. In addition to providing one-on-one support in summer camps, you will: assist camp staff, volunteers, and families/caregivers to implement existing support plans; promote consistency; and most importantly, help everyone have fun and make friends at summer camp! We are looking for youth with enthusiasm and strong organizational skills to join our summer camp team.

The preferred candidates will have: completed coursework in related field such as the Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Education, Social Work, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy or Nursing, or fields in Education and Special Education; one year experience with children ages 3-15 in a recreational setting; one year experience with individuals with special needs, cognitive and/or physical disabilities or behavioural challenges; knowledge of group characteristics and age appropriate activities; the ability to effectively provide guided choices, instructions and directions to children; the ability to encourage appropriate behaviour; the ability to assess situations involving challenging behaviours; the ability to provide on-site training and guidance; and experience working with families and other professionals.

The successful candidates will possess: a valid Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification or equivalent; a Class 5 driver’s licence with clean driving record and use of your own car to move between summer camps are assets, but are not required.

The successful candidates will meet the following Canada Summer Jobs requirements: 30 years of age or under at the start of employment; a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or recognized Refugee in Canada; hold a valid Social Insurance Number; and are legally entitled to work in Canada.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Police Information Check and a copy of your credentials.

Successful candidates must be available as follows:

  • In person interviews will be scheduled in April. (Skype interviews can be arranged if necessary.)
  • Mandatory Day Camp Staff Training will occur around the end of June. It may take place on a weekend.
  • June 17-August 30, 2019, Pre-camp meetings, site preparation, training and camp dates preparation.


Position Status:
Summer – Temporary, Full Time
Please note: if the Canada Summer Jobs funding for this position is approved, membership in the WVMEA will be mandatory.

Hours of Work:
40 hours per week (depending on camper’s registrations.)
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; expected duration of work will be from June 24-August 30, 2019

Rate of Pay:
$18.40 to $21.30 per hour plus 4%  in lieu of benefits
