The lifestyle community of Salmon Arm is nestled on the shores of Salmon Arm Bay of Shuswap Lake, centrally located half way between Vancouver and Calgary. The City of Salmon Arm is seeking applications for the position of Senior Planner. The Senior Planner provides leadership in planning and managing the growth and development of the City.  This position performs a significant public relations role in the community by assisting the Director of Development Services at public hearings, presentations and with community engagement activities.

This position is intended to be appointed officially as a Deputy Approving Officer. With the appointment, the incumbent is an independent decision maker concerning subdivision applications.  This mandate of this position is to assess requests based on federal and provincial statutes, and existing municipal bylaws, and approve/reject applications without influence by other municipal employees or elected officials.

The Senior Planner will assist with supervising a staff of personnel who provide a daily development and planning related services to the community which involves inquiries/requests regarding the OCP, rezoning applications, subdivision, development / variance permits, business licensing, City land sales and a variety of other matters.  

Required qualifications include: University degree in planning or a related field supported by 4 or more years of progressive experience in municipal planning or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered along with pprevious Approving Officer responsibilities.  Other qualifications and a detailed job description can be found on the City’s website www.salmonarm.ca .

This position falls within the Collective Agreement between the City of Salmon Arm and CUPE 1908. The bi-weekly pay rate for this position ranges from $2,586.21 and $3,006.15 and includes an excellent benefit package.
