British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)Location: Burnaby, BC
In 2014, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) celebrated five decades of providing highly relevant, critical training and education to individuals striving to be uniquely career-ready in a competitive and ever-changing market. As the largest polytechnic institute in Canada, with five campuses and over 50,000 students enrolled annually, BCIT is one of British Columbia’s largest post-secondary institutes.
BCIT equips graduates to anticipate and conquer the complex challenges of our day and plays a unique role in the larger educational system of British Columbia. The Institution works hard to successfully meet the needs of students, industry, and business in BC. For the eighth consecutive year, BCIT has been named one of BC’s Top 100 Employers and provides a generous benefits package that supports an attractive work/life balance.
BCIT has recently launched its largest capital campaign in its history, the first phase of which is $450M. With the Board of Governors, the Province and the community firmly behind the plan, transformation of infrastructure, buildings and green spaces on the main Burnaby campus will enhance BCIT’s ability to realize its vision as a premier polytechnic institution and the destination for excellence and innovation in future-focused applied learning and research.
As a result of these exciting developments, a Campus Plan Architect is being sought to lead the development, implementation and management of new architectural and urban design standards for the Institute. The position will define a new architectural language and urban design context to establish design requirements for major capital projects and promote the alignment of design innovation and sustainability. This position will be involved in a wide range of innovative capital projects, including large post-secondary education buildings, student housing, commercial development, and campus infrastructure projects.
The Campus Plan Architect office is located within the Facilities and Campus Development Department. Working closely with the Director of Campus Development and others in the department and overseeing a small team and a variety of outside consultants, the successful candidate will provide essential guidance to BCIT’s growth consistent with mission and goals of the administration, campus master plan and established guidelines.
The successful candidate will be a Registered Architect in good standing with the Architectural Institute of BC and will bring a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in design or design oversight and that ideally includes familiarity with post secondary or public sector facilities in an urban design context.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to shape the future of BCIT for those who will continue to shape the future of BC, of Canada, and of beyond.
