This position includes auxiliary work at various Youth Centres and interaction with youth between the ages of 10 and 18 years old including shifts in the evenings Monday to Friday as well as day shifts for out-trips during the summer season. The duties of the Recreation Leader 1 (Youth) include facility supervision, leading social and recreational activities, leading out-trips, relationship building, youth referrals, and community relations. The ideal candidate will have solid experience working with high-risk youth in a variety of situations, the ability to establish healthy boundaries and excellent problem solving and leadership skills. Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications include completion of a two year Community Recreation program from a recognized community college and related experience with youth at risk, or completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by courses in recreation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices is an asset, as well as the ability to organize, coordinate and provide leadership in a variety of social, cultural and recreational programs. Other attributes include strong communication and interpersonal/public relations skills and experience with program planning, development, implementation and evaluation. A current Emergency First Aid (8 hours) and CPR Level C certificates are required. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. A Class 4 BC Drivers License is an asset.
The positions are reviewed seasonally and based on operational need, with the bulk of the shifts on evenings and weekends and are on average 4 to 8 hours per week.
Hourly wage is $24.81 plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
