Scope
The Accounting Clerk 2 will communicate frequently with other City departments and external parties to provide assistance and information. The incumbent will use excellent inter-personal skills to represent the City in a professional and courteous manner. The successful incumbent will also be required to work independently to understand and address customer requirements while maintaining a high level of customer service; while being highly organized and understand and document business processes..  

Responsibilities
  • Review and accept Letters of Credits and Amendments issued by Financial Institutions in accordance with City guidelines.
  • Maintain receivables and payment receipts.
  • Liaise with Customers, City Departments and Financial Institutions to independently resolve inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Electronically file and maintain records.
  • Complete moderately complex monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts and the create year-end working papers
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Completion of grade 12 supplemented by a minimum of first year level courses leading to a recognized accounting degree.
  • Have a minimum of five years recent clerical and/or accounting experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Have the ability to understand and apply generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Have good working knowledge of financial softwares and PC applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Have quick and accurate mathematical calculation skills. 
  • Have the ability to meet the pressures of deadlines as required.

Conditions of Employment  
  • This position requires completion of a Police Information Check.
