The City of Parksville is seeking a permanent full-time Administrative Assistant II (Operations).

Under the general supervision of the Director of Engineering and Operations and Administrative Assistant III, or designate, performs a variety of complex and diversified administrative and clerical duties requiring a thorough knowledge of the Operations Department functions, procedures and policies; performs secretarial duties for the Department and assists other departmental staff in the performance of their duties, relating to clerical functions and general enquiries, or as directed by the supervisor and performs related work as required. This position includes work of a confidential nature, involving sensitive matters relating to administrative policy, land and development issues, personnel or other similar issues. This position requires the ability to work independently exercising judgment and initiative and may require supervision and training of junior clerical staff.

This role will provide the greatest satisfaction to a professional who with strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have excellent time management skills and the ability to work effectively while dealing with constant minor interruptions. They will be able to work independently without continuous supervision and work well with the public, elected officials and colleagues and respond to inquiries and complaints pleasantly and courteously.

The ideal candidate will have successfully completed Grade 12 and course work in office administration or computer applications. A minimum of five years of senior secretarial/administration experience, preferably within a municipal setting. An equivalent level of training and/or experience may be considered. Possession of a valid BC Drivers’ License and a good driving record are required.

This is a unionized position. The wage rate for the position is $30.74 per hour (January 1, 2018 rate) based on a 40 hour work week in accordance with the current Collective Agreement.
