The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Millwright. Reporting to the WWTP Supervisor, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting in late January 2019 for a period of one year.
The WWTP Millwright is responsible for inspecting and maintaining pump systems, blower systems, piping and valves for the treatment process system and will follow established operational and lockout procedures. Qualified candidates will possess a Grade 12 diploma and a Red Seal or BCTQ Journeyman Millwright Certification (mandatory) and at least 5 years of journeyman experience working in a similar or industrial setting.
Candidates must have thorough knowledge of the standard methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in this type of work and considerable knowledge of the hazards, necessary safety precautions and the applicable rules and governing regulations. Also, must possess the abilities to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; to read and work from sketches, diagrams and blueprints; to prepare and maintain related records; to make responsible decisions under pressure and in response to emergency situations; and to direct skilled or semi-skilled helpers as required. Candidates must also have sufficient physical strength and coordination to permit performance of manual work outdoors in all weather conditions and are required to perform night work at times. Work may be wet, dirty, malodourous, and physically confined.
As a requirement of the position, the successful candidate must possess a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and provide a satisfactory drivers abstract prior to beginning work. This position works 76.5 hours biweekly at a rate of $39.28 per hour. Employees in the WWTP department shall normally work a schedule consisting of nine days of work in a fourteen day period (Monday to Friday with every second Friday off). Each day of work shall be 8.5 hours exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.
