The Peace River Regional District (www.prrd.bc.ca) is situated in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. Headquartered in Dawson Creek the Regional District comprises seven municipalities and four electoral areas and is world renowned for their friendly people, spectacular outdoor recreation and linkages to the Yukon and Alaska.  Characterized by rolling hills with grain and cattle farms the Regional District contains about 40% of the province's Agricultural Land Reserve. The vibrant economy of the Peace River Regional District is varied and comprised mainly of oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, hydro-electric power generation, agriculture, and forestry. Home to approximately 62,000 residents, it offers amenities that equal or exceeds many of Canada’s major urban centres. The region has recognized and adopted one of the most advanced solid waste management plans in the province and as such are looking to attract an energetic and qualified individual fill the position of Solid Waste Services Manager.

Reporting to the General Manager of Environmental Services, the Solid Waste Services Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the PRRD’s 3 regional landfills, 28 rural transfer stations and waste collection services; along with the Regions’ recycling program. You will effectively manage operations, capital and operational solid waste budgets - totaling over 15 million dollars - and provide contract administration and compliance on approximately 13 landfill, recycling, and waste hauling contracts. You will be instrumental in the delivery of key programs and developing future solid waste strategies, as outlined in the Regional District’s Solid Waste Management Plan.

 You will have a degree or diploma in a related field from a recognized university or technical institute coupled with 5 years experience in solid waste ideally in a municipal setting. You are well versed in effective management techniques and training from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). You bring a working knowledge of solid waste operations; including methods and best practices used in the operation of landfills, transfer stations, waste hauling, and recycling depots and systems.

You are accomplished at leading within communities dealing with consistent growth and change and have a proven track record of demonstrating your capabilities as a division manager.  You are a team player and builder, a strategic thinker with excellent communications and human resource skills coupled with sound political judgement.  You fully understand the customer service nature of the business and deal effectively with the public and business at all levels. You are recognized for your positive corporate contributions and a catalyst for positive corporate change.
