Located on Vancouver Island’s east coast, 12,500 residents call Parksville home. We are committed to being the city of choice for ourselves and future generations in a clean, safe, friendly, economically viable and sustainable environment.

The City of Parksville has an opening for a permanent full-time Director of Human Resources to join our senior leadership team.  Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the incumbent will provide operational leadership to ensure delivery of top notch HR programs and services that will enable the City to achieve its strategic and operational objectives.  A true and seasoned generalist, the role will provide greatest satisfaction to a detail-oriented professional who understands the complexities of local government and relishes working in a collaborative, team-based work environment.  Responsibilities include both contributing to broad organizational strategy at the senior level and providing oversight and assistance with the day-to-day provision of full spectrum human resource services to a vibrant and growing organization with an HR team comprised of an HR Advisor, OH&S and Disability Advisor and an HR Assistant.

The ideal candidate will possess a university degree in business administration specializing in human resource management, and a minimum of 7 to 10 years’ progressively responsible Human Resources experience in a unionized environment, ideally in the public sector.  There is a strong preference for a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or willingness to obtain the same within the short term.  Proficiency with computer applications and relevant technology and with various HR software and a valid BC Class 5 drivers’ licence are also required.

If this sounds like the opportunity you have been waiting for, to put your experience implementing HR best practices, and your reputation as an excellent communicator, team builder, renowned problem solver and natural leader to work in our wonderful community, we hope to hear from you!
