Our Engineering Department is looking for an auxiliary Watchperson to perform radio, telephone dispatch, and routine custodial cleanup related work, out of our Works Yard. The successful incumbent will courteously receive telephone inquiries and complaints from the public, providing factual information to same. In addition, the incumbent will compile records information for referral to the appropriate authorities and receives records and relays messages, alarms, video surveillance information and instructions between field crews and supervisory staff. Additionally, the Watchperson helps by calling out and dispatching work crews and checks for credentials of persons entering the Works Yard. A Watchperson is also responsible for the safety and security of this area by patrolling inside and outside the Works Yard buildings by foot and will also help issue fuel and oil and perform other simple stores duties as required. Simple janitorial tasks in the dispatch office area are required while maintaining a variety of simple logs and computerized records. Performs other related work as required.
Qualifications for this role include the ability to work with minimal supervision; related dispatch experience in a municipal environment is considered an asset, preferably as a watchperson or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The incumbent should highlight their experiences and knowledge of the functions and procedures required of a Watchperson along with working knowledge and experience with dispatch-related tasks.
We require individuals with availability weekends primarily and who may work the occasional weekday shift for sick or vacation coverage.
