Tax Information Supervisor$56,478.64 - $64,337.78 annually
The Property Taxation Branch fulfils the Ministry’s statutory responsibility for taxation administration, through the application and interpretation of relevant Acts and Legislation, pertaining to five major property taxation programs: Home Owner Grants, Property Tax Deferment, Property Transfer Tax, Rural Property Taxes and School Property Taxes.
The Rural Property Tax section, which is part of Annual Property Tax is responsible for managing the business framework that governs the legislation, regulations, policies, business rules, business processes and related operations, managing client and stakeholder relations, evaluating and enforcing compliance and managing client accounts, including revenues and payables
The Property Tax Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily operations of the contact centre inquiries via phone and emails in a manner which ensures timely, fair and consistent information and advisory services are provided to rural and municipal property owners, their representatives and other stakeholders. In addition, the position provides support, guidance and advice to the staff to effectively and efficiently respond to contentious enquiries and resolves related disputes to maximize voluntary tax compliance and ensures audit, adjudication and loan approval activities are defensible.
The position establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with multiple partners and stakeholders including Government Agent partners, municipal collectors, Revenue Services of BC and the Homeowner Grant section, and supports the success of these operations by providing accurate and timely information. In addition, the position is a key participant in Branch meetings and contributes to business strategic and continuity planning.
Qualifications for this role include:
- Diploma in Business or Public Administration or Accounting plus a minimum of 12 months of recent related experience in administration and finance management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of 6 months supervisory experience is required. Preference may be given to those with experience supervising staff in a financial/taxation environment
- One year experience providing client service in a contact support centre with sometimes hostile or adversarial environment
- Preference may be given to those with experience working in a tax administration environment.
