General Manager, Planning and Infrastructure

Located just 17 kms west of Edmonton, the Town of Stony Plain is a vibrant and fast-growing community of over 17,000 that boasts a small-town atmosphere but offers amenities and conveniences of the big city.  Culture and community have always been integral to life here; residents foster this through a host of cultural activities, sporting events, social functions, markets and popular annual festivals.  

The Town of Stony Plain is currently seeking an ambitious leader for the position of General Manager, Planning and Infrastructure.  In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, the General Manager provides strategic leadership on enterprise-wide issues, opportunities, priorities and projects.   Reporting to the CAO, the General Manager provides executive oversight for the planning, engineering and operations functions and is accountable for operating and capital budgets, along with the management of risks, service delivery, organizational effectiveness and execution of several major projects.  This position works closely with the CAO and Council to shape the future of the community and organization.

As General Manager you are a strategic leader with a high degree of personal initiative, integrity and professionalism.  You have the ability to motivate, mentor, support and influence a diverse team of staff to create a high performance work environment.  Your interpersonal and communication skills enable you to build trusted relationships at all levels throughout the organization.

  • Post-Secondary degree in one of the following areas: Planning, Engineering, Political Studies, Commerce and/or Business Administration
  • Extensive Management and/or leadership training

  • Executive leadership experience with at least five of those being in a senior leadership role (municipal environment is preferred);
  • Proven knowledge of Municipal Leadership and Municipal Operations;
  • Strong Leadership Skills and the ability to Coach/Mentor organizational staff;
  • Excellent communication skills; interpersonal, verbal, written and facilitation;
  • Individual values that align with the Town’s values of collaborative leadership, safety, innovation and creativity, quality and excellence, partnership and alliances, and recognition of achievements.

The Town offers an excellent benefit package including the Local Authorities Pension Plan, plus an extra option to participate in the Apex Supplementary Pension Plan.  Based on a 35 hour work week, the salary range for this position is $125,698 - $159, 923 (salary is negotiable within this range based on experience and qualifications).
