Senior Planner

Tsawwassen First Nation

Senior Planner

(Full time Regular)

The Lands Department at the Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) is responsible for land use planning, land management and regulation of the 724 hectares of Tsawwassen Lands. A growing, thriving nation in the making, it is the first indigenous community to become a full member of the Metro Vancouver Regional District.  You will play a significant role in this fast-paced division as it supports residential, commercial and industrial growth in a near-greenfield, waterfront setting.

Reporting to the Director of Lands, you will work with a team of planners and other professional staff. In this key position, you will cover all facets of planning: development, long range, social, policy and related services to the community.  You will help manage the development of a new sustainable community with 2,800 residential units, 4 million sq. ft of industrial buildings and a 2 million sq. ft shopping centre/outdoor retail mall while retaining and building upon the ancestral home of the TFN member community.

Since earning your Master’s Degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline, you have excelled, for at least 5 years, in a municipal setting including providing leadership to junior planning staff. You are a strong, thoughtful communicator with a collaborative style but decisive when you need to be. In addition to your current and long-range planning experience, you have had exposure to a First Nations land management function or a final treaty environment. You are a member or eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).

This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual to make a significant contribution to a world-renowned organization that is growing and providing a bright future for its members and the community it serves.

This position reports to the Director of Lands and works closely with the professional staff in the Lands Department. The successful incumbent will work with several TFN departments, including Policy and Government Services, Finance, and Health and Social Services, to achieve departmental goals. The Senior Planner will be expected to develop excellent relationships with TFN Members and strong working relationships with external partners.
