Waste Water Treatment Operator Level III – Chief Operator

The Town of Gibsons has an opening for a motivated individual to fill the position of Waste Water Treatment Operator Level III and Chief Operator of the Gibsons waste water treatment plant.

Located on the Sunshine Coast, 40 minutes by ferry from Horseshoe Bay, the Town of Gibsons is a vibrant growing community of 4,600 residents. Duties and Responsibilities
  1. As Chief Operator for the waste water treatment plant, you will be responsible for the efficient operation of the Town’s wastewater treatment plant (Level III) and lift stations to ensure the effective collection (Level II) and treatment of municipal wastewater in accordance with regulatory requirements, incorporating industry best practices. 
  2. As unionized employee, you will be leading other EOCP certified operators.

The successful applicant must be self-motivated, capable of working independently and as part of a team, and have the following:
  1. Valid current BC EOCP certificate in Wastewater Treatment Level III,
  2. Waste Water Collection Level II.

Computer skills, excellent interpersonal, organizational and written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to deal effectively with the public are all essential skills required. The position requires an individual with strong technical skills who has the ability to understand and control the plant operating parameters in order to achieve or exceed the Waste Water Treatment Plant operating permit requirements.

This is a union position reporting to the Manager of Maintenance and Operations and comes with a standard municipal benefit package including pension, medical and other benefits while working a 37.5-hour work week. You must maintain your Level III Waste Water Operator EOCP certificate and remain in good standing with EOCP. Training for other EOCP certification levels is encouraged and facilitated by the municipality.

Rate of Pay: $36.50/hour
