Regular Full Time (RFT) & Temporary Full Time (TFT)
Sewer/Drainage – 1 RFT position and up to 2 TFT positions
Water – up to 2 TFT positions

We have one regular full time and up to four temporary full time career opportunities in our Sewer/Drainage and Water department.  As a Maintenance Worker – Utilities, you will be performing skilled manual work repairing, maintaining, and constructing waterworks infrastructure. You will also ensure City fire hydrants and pumps are operating efficiently in addition to repairing or replacing water mains, services, valves, and pressure reducing valves. You will also operate relevant equipment such as hand held tools such as cut off saws, road saws, jumping jack, and power broom and heavy equipment such as up to and including tandem axle dump trucks.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Completion of grade 12
  • Considerable related work experience in water or sewer/drainage
  • Completion of post-secondary courses in waterworks, such as Water distribution 1, EOCP, and Introduction to Public Works
  • Possess sound knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in water or sewer systems infrastructure maintenance
  • You will also have the ability to recognize and apply safe work procedures.

To be successful in this position, you must be able to work well as part of a team and demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills with members of the public and colleagues.

Candidates must hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or equivalent.  We will require you to have a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with air brake endorsement by the end of probation/trial period.

A CUPE hourly rate of $30.21, a comprehensive benefits package (or percentage in lieu for temporary full-time), and an earned day off program is being offered.
