This is professional work involving the design of new parks and public open space or redevelopment of same. The work involves developing conceptual plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing terms of reference; obtaining necessary approvals; monitoring the progress of projects including contract administration services; recommending specification changes as required; attending or organizing and conducting public interest group meetings regarding park development proposals; coordinating the implementation of assigned projects with other municipal staff; researching a variety of data pertinent to park planning issues and preparing recommendations on same; and maintaining liaison with various internal and external contacts, attending interdepartmental meetings, and providing technical landscape architectural advice as required. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include university graduation in Landscape Architecture or related discipline and sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of landscape design principles and practices as related to the work performed; of landscape construction methods and materials and of horticultural techniques and practices. Sound knowledge of the policies, procedures, and by-laws governing the work; of the principles, practices, and procedures applicable to municipal planning as it relates to the work performed. Ability to develop conceptual plans and prepare or oversee preparation of detailed specifications for park and public open space developments; to organize and conduct public interest group meetings, prepare graphic presentations, collect public input, and resolve conflicting demands; to coordinate the implementation of park and public open space development projects with other municipal staff and monitor the work in progress; to maintain liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts, to provide advice and assistance on park projects to departmental staff and members of the public, and to represent the department as required; and to read and interpret engineering, architectural, and landscape architectural plans and specifications. Skill in the use of computerized drafting and graphic software. Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia and registration or eligibility for registration in the Society of Landscape Architects in the Province of British Columbia are requirements.
