As Manager of Financial Services, you will serve the community by advancing the accountability, transparency and sustainability of municipal finances ensuring we provide meaningful, efficient and cost-effective value to our citizens. 

Position Overview: This is the ideal opportunity for someone who is seeking to make meaningful and direct impacts in the community through the use of their financial expertise, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills. You will have the opportunity to further develop your strong relationship-building and leadership skills as you collaborate with many talented people inside and outside the organization to achieve our common goals; resilient and sustainable programs, services, infrastructure and finances that ensure the best use of tax dollars and exceptional customer service. As our leading financial expert, this role is assigned many high priority responsibilities overseeing all municipal accounting operations and is trusted and respected for its advice, guidance and leadership to Town Council, managers and staff. This role includes a diverse portfolio of challenging and interesting assignments that will offer you the opportunity to build upon your big picture thinking and innovate in many areas of accounting and government financial operations such as; strategic direction for business planning and operations, corporate-wide budgets, fiscal management programs, business case development, policy and procedure creation, asset management and business improvement. In addition to strategic work, this role is accountable for the day-to-day leadership, mentorship and direction of our talented group of financial professionals that provide financial oversight, accountability and direct support services to the organization and community such as; operating budget development, business analytics and reporting, A/R , A/P, assessment, taxation, asset management, utilities and licensing.

As our Manager of Financial Services, you are responsible for all Town of Canmore financial activities and will need to utilize your relationship building and collaboration skills to develop the trust and respect of council, administration and citizens. You will have the opportunity to further develop your exceptional verbal and written communications skills as you prepare, present and defend reports to administration, council and at public forums. Your ability to translate technical financial analysis into meaningful, unambiguous and understandable concepts for non-technical audiences will be key to building trusting and respectful relationships that are central to achieving personal, team and organizational success. In addition to your strategic responsibilities, you have the skills to lead a high functioning and diverse team of finance professionals who require your mentorship and support to push them to further accomplishment, innovation and thinking outside the box to determine efficiencies and improve customer service opportunities for internal and external clients. To be successful in this role you will need a minimum of 8 years related experience in complex financial management (preferably public sector) with demonstrated knowledge in strategic financial and business planning, budgeting, taxation/utilities, property assessment, auditing, investment, debentures and asset management. A related post-secondary degree from a recognized university in a field such as; Finance, Business or Public Administration and a CPA professional accounting designation will help you to be successful in this role.
