Due to a recent promotion, the Surrey School District is seeking qualified applicants for the busy Manager of Mechanical Department role at the District Facilities Centre. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Facilities, the Mechanical Department Manager is responsible for planning, managing and providing oversight for the Mechanical/HVAC department including renovations, maintenance, installations and projects across 140 District sites. This key management role works closely with District departments and outside agencies, provides exceptional leadership to the Mechanical Department staff and acts in the capacity of the mechanical expert for District projects and initiatives.

Due to the complex technical nature of the Mechanical/HVAC Department, the successful applicant must have extensive working experience in the Mechanical/HVAC field with a strong technical background. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively prioritize projects and problem-solve quickly are key requirements of this role. The candidate will have demonstrated initiative in previous work and will have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. The candidate will also have knowledge of best practices and current trends in this field and extensive experience managing projects.

The ideal candidate for this position must possess:
  • A Red Seal trade qualification in a related mechanical trade and/or comparable education;
  • 5 years of relevant field experience, ideally in a busy multi-site organization;
  • Experience in facility maintenance;
  • Supervisory/leadership experience, ideally in a unionized organization;
  • Class 5 drivers licence;
  • Preference given to applicants with project management experience and/or education.
  
This position is based out of the District Facility Centre in the heart of Surrey. This exempt position offers a salary range of $77,910 - $97,388 commensurate with education and experience, plus an excellent benefits package including municipal pension.
