Senior Legislative Analyst

$67,418.93 - $77,019.79 annually plus 3.3% Temporary Market Adjustment

The Building and Safety Standards Branch is responsible for developing and implementing modern regulatory frameworks for safe technical systems and the design, construction and occupancy of buildings. The Branch works to balance safety, economics and social concerns in regulation. We do this through evidence-informed policy development, legislation and regulation and by adopting codes and standards.

The Branch operates in a matrix environment and the position may be assigned work and receive direction from a Manager, Director, Executive Director and/or the Assistant Deputy Minister. This work environment facilitates the assignment of resources to projects or strategies as needed and promotes the coordination of activities on a branch-wide basis.

As Senior Legislative Analyst, you independently manage assigned legislative and policy development projects focused on the review and revision of ministry legislation, regulation and policy. You have an understanding of legislation and will analyze and develop strategic policy that leads to changes in policies or legislation/regulations to promote and protect public safety. An effective communicator, you demonstrate initiative when acting as project manager on projects related to branch initiatives that may include managing stakeholder consultations, facilitating meetings, managing contracts, and/or reporting out on research findings.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Degree in law, public administration, business administration, economics, social sciences, planning or equivalent and 2 years of experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in the development of legislation, regulation and policy.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating complex projects/assignments
  • Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content
