Over the last few years, the Town of Edson has undergone considerable change, both culturally and structurally.  We are a stronger, more unified, re-energized, and focused organization whose mandate remains delivering exceptional public service.

Consolidating Engineering, Planning and Operations into one portfolio has led to the need for a senior level manager for this restructured Department.  The Town of Edson is seeking a strong, motivated, strategic thinker for the position of General Manager, Infrastructure & Planning.

As the General Manager, Infrastructure & Planning you will provide executive leadership, engagement and strategic direction for all the Infrastructure & Planning functions of the Town.  Working closely with the Chief Administrative Officer, Council, other senior managers, you will act as a partner and resource for the organization by leading and guiding all aspects of Department.  The portfolio is diverse but is supported by a very capable group of Managers and Workers.  The successful candidate will be required to model the way, inspiring a shared vision and challenging processes, encouraging heart and enabling their Team to act.

Education, Experience, and Credentials (generally, the following minimum credentials are expected):
  • Eight to ten years of professional leadership experience at a senior level.
  • A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) is preferred.  Accreditation as Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) may also be considered.  Certification as a Projects Manager Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute is preferred.  Master’s Degree in Urban Planning may also be considered.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in municipal operations, systems thinking, strategic planning, organizational processes and systems, government relations, policy analysis, facilitation and project management.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in long term planning, visioning and budgeting.
