Main Purpose and Function
The Tire Worker I will complete routine tire repair work in the Equipment Services Garage and in the field. They will follow instructions from the Foreperson regarding fleet priorities, changed standards, tire types, or repair methods necessitated by City policy or contract changes. The Tire Worker I works without supervision when the Foreperson is unavailable.

The current hours of work are from 3:10 PM to 12:34 AM, Monday to Friday and you will work out of Manitoba Works Yard. The hours and location may change depending on operational needs.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Stripping, repairing, assembling, and replacing a variety of vehicle tires, wheels, and rims.
  • Responsible for following safety procedures and identifying and correcting safety hazards as necessary.
  • Deal with customer service requests and complaints on a timely basis.
  • Communicating with Garage Control Centre to create and maintain Work Order records.
  • Aid in the control of Tire Shop mounted and repaired stock inventories, servicing tires with calcium chloride solution and related work as required.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Functional and or physical assessment related to the bona fide position requirements may be required. Candidates must attach the following to be considered:
  • Commercial Driving Records Abstract (N Print) for the past 5 years
  • Insurance & Claims History for the past 5 years

Education and Experience:
  • Completion of grade 10 supplemented by several years of experience and courses related to the equipment tire industry, tire inventory management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Forklift Operator certificate or the ability to obtain one

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Sound knowledge of standard practices, methods, the tools, material and equipment used in the tire industry.
  • Considerable knowledge of current tire repairs methods, materials, and tools.
  • Knowledge of hazards and proper safety aspects of the tire industry.
  • Proven ability to disassemble and reassemble tires and rims safely and efficiently.
  • Proven ability to repair and service a variety of tires for vehicles and equipment, maintain routine notes on work orders and other clerical records.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools essential for tire repair and servicing.
  • Skill in the operation of various vehicles.
  • Must exercise considerable judgement and skill when dealing with all aspects of the tire repair process.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with co-workers and customers
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment with competing schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise some independence of judgment and action in the routine or simple aspects of the work.
  • Ability to courteously answer questions and deal with the public.
  • Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy physical labour.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull heavy objects.
  • Ability to walk or stand continuously with frequent bending or twisting.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, and on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment variety of tools and equipment.

Driver’s License and Record Checks
  • A current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a safe driving record are required.
  • The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job responsibilities.
  • Your driving record will be reviewed as part of the application process. Candidates must demonstrate a safe driving history, as assessed by the City of Vancouver.
