Building Inspector (Casual)

The Town of Ladysmith is a vibrant community nestled on the eastern shores of spectacular Vancouver Island. With a population of approximately 8,500 people, the community provides an inviting small town atmosphere and yet is only a short commute to all of the amenities of a major urban centre. Residents enjoy excellent community and recreational facilities, including year-round opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
We are currently seeking a casual Building Inspector to work in our Development Services Department. Reporting to the Senior Building Inspector and Bylaw Compliance Officer, the Building Inspector
contributes to the effective operation of the Development Services Department through the review and approval of building permit applications, the inspection of conventional buildings and the monitoring of complex buildings.
Applicants must possess an Interprovincial Trades Qualification in Carpentry or Plumbing or a Diploma from a recognized technical institute in Building Technology. Also required is Level II Certification with the Building Officials’ Association of BC, Level 1 Certification with the Plumbing Inspectors’ Association of BC, eligibility for Level 2 Building Official qualification under the Building Act, and be a member in good standing with the Building Officials’ Association of BC (BOABC). A minimum of three years’ experience in a Local Government building department performing building/plumbing inspections is required. A combination of education/experience and skills/abilities may be considered.
This is a casual Union position (no guarantee of hours); typical hours provide vacation and other coverage. Regular work day is eight (8) hours per day with an hourly wage of $34.60/hour (2017 rate).
