You are the City of Kitchener’s next Director, Corporate Communications and Marketing.

Kitchener communications and marketing division is looking for an inspiring, authentic leader who can advance the team through its next evolution of growth and change.

The Corporate Communications and Marketing Division includes:
  • Strategic communication planning and marketing
  • Creative services (graphic design, internal print shop), digital media
  • Community engagement
  • Strategic sponsorships and partnerships   

First Year Priorities:  

  • Design, develop and implement a vision for corporate communications and marketing that advances a leading-edge approach to delivering this critical business function in a modern and progressive municipality.
  • Provide authentic, inspiring leadership, mentoring and coaching to drive a high-performing team.  

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a strategic marketing and communications plan;
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive brand strategy that consistently represents the city across all platforms;
  • Develop, lead and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy.

Issues Management
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a corporate issues management process;
  • Build, nurture and maintain positive and proactive relationships with key stakeholders (including other levels of government, media, staff etc.)

Community Engagement:
  •  Oversee the implementation of the city’s strategic community engagement strategy; continue to build opportunities for citizens to provide their perspective on city plans, initiatives and projects.

Office of Strategic Partnerships (OSP):
  • Oversee the development of a strategic plan that creates a platform of success for the Office of Strategic Partnerships, ensuring the long term growth and development of this business unit;
  • Develop and implement an effective and scalable marketing plan that increases revenue, participation and community investment in the City through the OSP;
  • Cultivate and strengthen sponsor/partner relationships at a senior level.

  • Superior communication skills; especially written  

Having completed your 4 year Honours degree or 3 year degree or diploma, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or related discipline, you will ideally have a designation/membership or certification from a recognized communications association. You have extensive leadership experience in strategic communications planning, stakeholder engagement, issues management and crisis communication and media relations, preferably within the Broader Public Sector. You possess strong organizational, project management, time management and attention to detail capabilities. You also have a strong business and financial acumen with a strong understanding of local government (budgeting, procurement, etc.). You have demonstrated tenacity and strength of character to ensure efficient and effective completion of all mandates and possess superior written and oral communications, research, and presentation skills.

Compensation is $124,115 - $ 155,143 per annum (under review)

It is anticipated that shortlisting of candidates for interviews will take place around the first week of October with interviews being conducted towards the middle-end of October.
