Election Officials - 2018 Penticton General Local Election


The City of Penticton is currently seeking Election Officials for Advanced Polls on October 10th, 13th, 18th and for the General Location Election on October 20th, 2018. Election Officials assist and support the administration of voting and are responsible for the following: 
 
  • Setting up the voting place and stations including voting booths and posting signs and notices
  • Verifying voter’s name on the voter list, making changes to existing registration, registering new voters and verifying identification
  • Explaining the voting process and issuing ballots
  • Assisting voters as may be required
  • Assisting with the packing of equipment and supplies and the closing of the voting place
The successful candidates will possess:
 
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to interact with voters and clearly communicate election procedures
  • Ability to understand and follow written instructions and checklists
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of and experience with election process and the election provisions of the Local Government Act will be considered an asset
Things you need to know before you apply:
 
  • This casual non-union position pays $15 per hour
  • You must be at least 16 years of age by the date you are scheduled to work (General Voting Day October 20, 2018 or if required to work Advanced Polls October 10th, 13th, or 18th)
  • You will be expected to work Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 7:30 am to 8:30 pm.  If you are available for Advance Polling dates, you may be scheduled for those dates. Short meal breaks will be provided. 
  • Most of this time you will be sitting, so you must be able to sit for long periods.
  • You will be using a computer, so as noted computer skills are important.  We are not using a standard Microsoft program so this will be a new system to learn.
  • Legible handwriting is also important.
  • You will need to be able to get yourself to one of the polling stations:
    • Penticton Trade and Convention Centre 273 Power St, Penticton
    • Senior’s Community Centre 2965 South Main Street, Penticton
    • City Hall, KVR Middle School, potentially other locations
  • You will also be required to attend a 4 hour paid training session one evening prior to the election
