Do you enjoy working in the technical field of building inspections and regulatory work? The City of Richmond is now recruiting for a Building Inspector 1 to inspect buildings of all type and occupancies, while ensuring construction, conversions, repairs, alterations, demolitions, and additions are in compliance with the requirement of the BC Building Code and municipal regulations and bylaws.
We are looking for someone that has:
- Knowledge of the current BC Building Code, Zoning Bylaws, and other codes and regulations affecting the construction and repair of buildings.
- The ability to deal effectively with owners, registered professionals, contractors and tradesmen, and enforce bylaws and related requirements in a positive, tactful and firm manner.
- The ability to communicate clearly and demonstrate a high level of customer service and professionalism.
- The ability to read blueprints, legal maps, and related material, while recognizing technical requirements and suggesting corrections and changes as required.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from a two (2) years Diploma program in Building Technology from an Institute of Technology or a related field of study with a minimum of 2 years of related experience in the building construction industry or the municipal field; OR qualification as a journeyman in a recognized trade with completion of building code courses and minimum of 2 years of related experience in building construction industry or municipal field. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Certification or eligibility for qualification by the Building Officials' Association of British Columbia in BOABC level 2. BOABC Level I considered an asset. (Level II qualification is required before February 2021)
