This position performs aquatic leadership work in supervising and directing the provision of aquatic instructional and recreational programs on an assigned shift at Bonsor Recreation Complex. The incumbent supervises, checks and participates in the work of a moderate sized group of full-time, part-time and auxiliary staff engaged in instructional, lifeguarding, maintenance, custodial and clerical/cashiering work. Additional duties include participating in aquatic program development and promotion of the same and conducting orientation and in-service training for staff and preparing and maintaining a variety of records and reports related to the work. Performs related aquatic maintenance work and deals with pool related systems. The Aquatic Leader 1 maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and performs related work as required.
Qualifications include High School Graduation supplemented by courses in lifesaving, lifeguarding, aquatics instruction and pool operation/maintenance. Sound related aquatics experience is also needed including supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The following licences and certifications are required: Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia; Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate; Lifesaving Society Instructor Certificate; National Lifeguard Service Award, CPR Certificate – Level C and BCRPA Basic Fitness Leader – Aquatics. Pool Operator Certificates and Occupational First Aid Tickets would be considered assets.
